Overview

The World Children's Center will offer programs that foster education, provide housing and shelter, as well as insure the safety of socially and economically disadvantaged children. The WCC believes every child should have the opportunity to grow in a safe, stable environment, have equal access to education and quality health care, and be provided the tools necessary to support self-sufficiency, as well as gain meaningful and productive work throughout his or her life.

The World Children's Center Academy will serve children from Georgia, the southeast, the United States and eventually from other nations helping to ensure the ethnic diversity reflective of those children who most need the benefits of our School and Home.

Proven Success

When completely built, the World Children's Center Academy will educate, provide housing and enrichment/character-building programs, as well food and clothing to an estimated 800 children. To ensure best practices, the Academy is being modeled after successful e ducational programs, with the Milton Hershey School serving as our greatest advisor. For over 100 years, the Milton Hershey School located in Hershey, Pennsylvania has provided support to an estimated 18,000 students, provided services to thousands of young men and woman to achieve post-secondary education, and trained thousands more in gaining meaningful employment.

Master Plan

The World Children's Center Academy campus is located on a sprawling 710 acres in west Georgia centrally located between Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga. The campus was designed and engineered by award-winning firms. Facilities will include student and graduate housing, parks and playgrounds, PreK-12 grade educational facility, athletic fields, admissions and wellness center, international humanitarian development training center, food and clothing distribution center and worship center.

A "Green" Community

Under the advisement and expertise of Southface and National Builder of the Year John Wieland Homes & Neighborhoods, our "Green" construction addresses sustainability and energy efficiency. Our EarthCraft student homes serve as a blueprint for healthier, more comfortable living, which reduce utility bills and protect the environment. Benefits include operational and repair costs savings, conservation of resources and energy, improved air and water quality, reduced noise pollution, and enhanced durability. Additionally, to aid in the conservation of water, the Center designed and built as part of the original infrastructure a surface water irrigation system.

Progress

Through private donations, the Center has made great progress including the completion of land acquisition, engineering and land planning, infrastructure development, front entrance and gate house, as well as the first student home. In 2010/2011, our goals include raising the capital required to build the next two student homes and purchase the school modular building, as well as constructing these facilities. Upon completion of these goals, the Campus will open.
